Questions

Does converting to PNG make the photo better quality?
No. A JPG has already thrown away some detail to save space, and that detail cannot come back. PNG keeps exactly what is in the JPG without losing anything further.
Why is the PNG bigger than the JPG was?
PNG stores every pixel exactly as it is, while JPG saves space by throwing detail away. For photographs a PNG is often two to five times larger. That is normal.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency to begin with, so the PNG will be fully opaque. To cut out a background you need an editor.
Is there a file size limit?
Files up to 50 MB work. Very large images use a lot of memory, so an older phone may struggle before a computer does.
